Cowtown Mac User Group

CMUG, the Cowtown Macintosh User Group has supported Fort Worth Macintosh computer users with knowledge, experience, training and friendship since 1988.

We network with Mac experts, software & hardware vendors, and other Mac User Groups. We are informal, casual, there is no charge for visiting, membership is only $20 year, which also entitles you to get a ticket to be eligible to win the door prize, usually a CD of software or a book. (We do request product reviews to post on the web.)

Monthly meetings are open to all, no experience required. Presentations include a software demonstration & overview. In recent months we have had demonstrations on Keynote, iWeb, (the program that builds this web site) and the new Mac OS “Snow Leopard.” We have used video iChat (projected on a big screen) to speak with experts located in other cities. We have learned about social networking sites, and how these are now used by businesses to pre-screen job applicants, and how ‘big business’ is using these social sites to promote and expand their name recognition and market share.

We welcome questions of all kinds, several of our long-time members are experts in a variety of fields, and one of us can usually answer your question, and if not, we will find the answer.

Twice a year we host a social event. In July, we meet for dinner, usually at a casual restaurant for conversation and a fun evening of “no business.” Our annual Christmas party, complete with crazy gift exchange, has provided many of us with the best party of the season. We welcome all visitors, even if you still have a PC. If you just bought a Mac and want to learn more, then this group is for you. Our group has helped newbies develop and flourish.

We have watched newbies grow and flourish, and some are now Experts in their field. Not all of the software demonstrated may be for you, but you will come away with a good understanding of what it can do.
